Canker sores

Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment

Canker sores, also known as aphthous ulcers, are small, painful lesions that can develop on the inside of the mouth, lips, or throat. They are typically white or yellow with a red border and can make eating, drinking, and talking uncomfortable. While the exact cause of canker sores is unknown, factors such as stress, injury to the mouth, hormonal changes, and certain foods can trigger their development. Canker sores are not contagious and usually heal on their own within 1-2 weeks. Over-the-counter treatments can help alleviate pain and promote healing. In some cases, recurrent or severe canker sores may require medical attention.
